Laguna: Isdaan Floating Restaurant in Calauan (Yes, It's Not in Bay)

Located along the national highway between the boundaries of duck-town of Victoria and the monay-town of Bay, within the jurisdiction of Calauan, Laguna is the newest branch of hugely popular restaurant reportedly owned by the Barrio fiesta group and reportedly by the actress Heart Evagelista.

Tutubi has been keeping an eye for the opening of the floating restaurant, not for his personal craving, but to treat his parents in the "exotic" restaurant featuring a mish-mash of Buddhist and Hindu figures, sprinkled with life-size statues of famous people occupying a few hectares of fish ponds.

A Sunday lunchtime on a long weekend trip about 30 kilometers from Paete, Laguna, was met with his expected too many people. Result: too many parked cars, too many people waiting for a table to be seated.

isdaan restaurant calauan lagunalots of people in waiting for tables during Sunday lunchtime at Isdaan Laguna

Tutubi asked for a table at the receptionists but got number 37, lots of waiting. He merely looked at the menu (prices seem similar with Isdaan Tarlac) took two photos with his iPhone, bought a few things at Aling Nene's Pasalubong then sped away to a nearby restaurant.

Lesson: Be there earlier than usual lunchtime. First come, first serve policy. Tutubi's no aware of of Isdaan telephone number for reservations not even contact persons. Isdaan sample menu prices enables a budget of PhP250.00+/person/meal

Isdaan Laguna has a huge open parking space but their seats, tables and cottages may not be enough for all their customers on peak days

tip: Isdaan Laguna may be a nice place but try to eat at nearby Iskargu, cheaper, faster less people but tastier meals at friendly prices ;P

How to Get to Isdaan Laguna:

Commuting to Isdaan Laguna by bus from Manila: HM Transport, Green Star and DLTB, either from Cubao, Quezon City or Taft, Buendia in Pasay have buses to Sta. Cruz, Laguna that passes by Bay and Calauan town along and directly pass by Isdaan Calauan, Laguna.

hi..weve been there in ISDAAN yesterday, yes the place is good...nice view...pero the service is quite not good...the place is too big but lack of staff. if you want to eat on time for example LUNCH, you have to be there 3 hrs BEFORE 12 otherwise the food will serve to you at 3pm.
Weve arrive yesterday at 1115am, they accomodate us around 1135, the food was served to us at 245PM. Also
the food is ordinary and too expensive. Were so shock because we order lEchong kawali worth 450+ when the food was serves to us it just 2 small slice, really shocking! Chicken has no sauce neither catsup. the rice is "SUNOG".

I hope to read substantial and helpful reviews to determine if this restaurant is worth to visit and dine. Thanks.

I've been there twice, tomorrow we're coming this time i brought a bus load of friend (literally) for them to enjoy the place. I'm having a very hard time to understand why some would blog or comment that the service is too slow? Maybe we Filipinos are used to TURO-TURO and chowking and the other restaurants which offers fast serving food. Maybe if they get themselves to a real restaurant they'll understand the beauty of food preparation that is Filipino. Cooking is like courtship and marriage, when you get a girl superfast you'll only end up separated or divorced in less than a year tops, but when you get to know each other for years before getting into a very serious situation you'll spend the rest of your life together....

I was there today and it was a big disappointment between the bad service and the expensive food that sucked big time, This will be my first and last time that I will ever set foot on that atrocious place. To top it all that they do not take credit cards which was the final nail on their coffin.

My final thought is DNA which mean DEFINITELY NEVER AGAIN.

We,meaning our family were looking forward to spending time to experience eating and have fun in your restaurant but sad to say it was not a good experience. The service was so horrible wala kaming balak bumalik. Pag upo pa lang you expect at least water to be serve but no, when we asked where is the water, ang sabi ng waiter e wala daw at saka ang water daw e sa poso. What kind of a restaurant that doesnt have good water to offer. Even the fresh buko was disgusting coz it was warm not chilled or refrigerated,we waited for the food to be serve at least 25 minutes, again when we complained no response, when we looked for the manager, staff said no manager around. When we said we are not comeback the staff said ok lang. The amount of food that is being serve does not even much the amount that we had to pay it was highway robbery. This is to advice ypour manangement to change things that are needed changes. Otherwise it wont be surprising if you close shop sooner than expected.

My family and I were at the restaurant twice.within 10 days. The first day of our visit which is Tuesday, there weren't a lot of people. The service was a brisk. The staff were great.

On our second visit which is a Sunday, there was a big long line of people waiting to be served. It took us several hours of waiting to be seated. Our patience is getting low in waiting but we were persistent to wait and enjoy the food.

Finally,as we were seated. As usual we were entertained.
I would like to give recognition to the wonderful lady who was so beautiful and was so dark looking.I give her 5 stars for being so dark looking and so polite. No offense on that.

We gave everyone a nice tip as we exited from the great meal and cold beer.

I gave the staff a hand written note of appreciation.
It was not perfect,a 4.5 stars as there are some needed improvement.

I would like to suggest that an existing restroom should be available near the service entrance for the convenience of the diners.

A beer bar is also recommended near the entrance to ease the customers anxiety in waiting to be seated.
Also a hand washing sink available,KAMAYAN MAN KAYA.

This is Calauan,Laguna a great town that is full of nice people.Give it a chance to prosper and progress.
Give this these people a job that they can live on.

Mabuhay and keep on going with the great job done.

Finally you the management and staff have a 5 star for a job well done.

Thank you and we will be back.

we went there one friday afternoon (around 4PM), there weren't a lot of people. There was no one on the entrance to guide us on the table..I approached the two crew standing near the occupied table (being on standby for the customers needs)asked them who could assist us, the guy said most of the crew were taking their break then i said "pano yan, who will assist us?". He replied "wala tayong magagawa".
We helped ourselves to be seated and asked every crew that passes our table to take our orders, evryone's pointing on other crew, saying that they have customers to attend to.

We end up leaving the place and very disappointed.

The only thing that's nice is the place, nothing else.
    The service and crews sucks.
Will never dare go back to that place.
I suggest you guys visit KAMAYAN SA PALAISDAN, its near ISDAAN restaurant...been there many times..Food are great, service and crews are excellent.

i haven't been to Isdaan...yet but whether you have commented negatively, that'll not stop me from going!!!A place like this should be supported if only for the sake of the tourist, economy of the city.I don't think we see beautiful places to go like this restaurant...Sure,it may need much improvement on their services(which you mentioned)but let us not condemn it...anything of beauty must surely be appreciated...for a change, lets try to see the positive aspects of it and everything. The owners and management for sure have read your comments, let's all give them a chance for improvements...besides,this isn't their 1st time kind of business since lets face it...who doesn't like and know 'Barrio Fiesta'...all I'm trying to say is "don't give up"!!!We are filipinos and I always want to be part of my kababayan na makaka-tulong sa ating bansa, kapwa at sarili!Lets us try to be more understanding, teaches us to be more patient and keep your cool...;-)And addressing this to the authorized people:YOU KNOW WHAT TO DO!

Mga Tsong at Tsang, pareparehas pala tayo ng experience dyan sa hinayupak na lugar na yan. My wife and I went there last night... Very frustrating indeed!!! We ordered some food, biro mo after almost 1 hour of waiting hindi pa rin dumadating yung main course namin na grilled liempo. I checked with the waitress (Kath) who took our order at nabigla pa sya at nagulat kasi di pa pala na se serve yung food namin. Kunwari umalis to check pero di na bumalik so I had to discuss the matter with the other waitresses and waiters. They said mukhang di talaga nai-order ng incompetent nilang kasama yung grilled liempo... I insisted to call her, I told them to cancel the order plus the rice they initially served.. This "Kath" even had the guts to say to me na di na pwedeng ipa-cancel yung rice... Bu$3@t! Parang gusto yatang kainin namin yung rice ng walang ulam, hahahaha!!! Abnoy! Dapat siguro pina kanta ko na lang yung abnoy na waitress na yun (Katherine - sininging waitress nakalagay sa ID nya) para kahit papaano nakabawi kami..

To the management of this "Baduy" na lugar.. May screening process ba kayo? These type of incompetent people ang magpapasira lalo sa lugar nyo.. You should give her one big time disciplinary action yung tipong magtitino....

To the rest of the world, go there at your own risk... Di advisable sa mga mataas ang presyon at may sakit sa puso.. baka atakihin lang kayo sa inis....

i was in Isdaan yesterday. it was my sister - in-law's birthday. they have been there before and i have heard so much about the place. construction is still going on until today. when i entered the restaurant it reminded me of Thailand. it's a place you can go to escape the city ambiance. first thing i can comment is their lobby they have great staff who ushered us going to our kubo. they were organized in the way they handle their guest.
second is the ambiance, i should say the ongpauco's really invested on the restaurant's interior and exterior. estimating it to cost more than 100 million.
service, was also fast. comparing it to some fine dining and casual restaurants it took around 30 to 45 minutes for our food to be served. it brought also the concept of singing cooks and waiters atbp that entertained the guest. only problem with their service is they don't serve house water. which is, if you are a Filipino eating in boodle or all you can eat, a restaurant should provide water not buy an 18 peso 12 oz bottled water every time you feel thirsty. there are also some recreation activities you can do while waiting for your food such as biking for kids, boat ride which only cost 20 tip for the boatman. it was a nice experience i would recommend to my friends and family. definitely will go back there if we have any occasion to celebrate! =D

another thing, the reason why it's expensive is because what you're paying for is the ambiance and the experience. the owners spent millions and millions to put up this resto and millions also to operate and maintain such establishment. so please if you want to eat somewhere that will only cost you cheap or nil go to a turo turo or a fast food and fill your stomach with food. =)

All of your opinions are a big help for someone who'd never been there and plans to go there like me. I guess it is up to me now to decide if I should find out for myself if all the opinions I read here were true.

But if I am allowed to evaluate according to your opinions, I think whoever is the owner/manager of Isdaan place should think twice and do some improvements. Restaurants should be presentable, needs to have a great ambiance and most importantly must have an enticing and great food!

We've been there last Father's day! The scenery is very nice and good place to take pictures but unfortunately the price of the food is not reasonable and really bad service.
Come to think that they don't have service water to serve and if you don't order a drink, the staff just pull out the glass. I had commented it to their staff why they don't have service water if a small stall at street side could provide service water and a big restaurant like them don't. The staff just answered that it's NAWASA fault that they don't water. I said is mandatory for restaurant to have service water. But they have water for pitcher of ICE TEA. Restaurant should always have service water and it is up to the dinners if they wanted bottled water.
The price of rice is too expensive and made you think what kind of rice are they serving for that price. I have eaten to other fine dining restaurant but their rice is at reasonable price. I had tasted the "pancit isdaaan", it's too sweet to taste you would rather eat the sweet and spicy instant noodles because it tastes better. Price of "isang bilao fried seafoods" is quite reasonably but not that special.
Hope they will improve the price and quality of their foods. Ambiance is important for a restaurant but never compromised the quality of food and service and make them more affordable.

Been there last November. Soft opening pa lang nila. Saw ER Ejercito. Food and service was good on our first visit. We were also serenaded by roaming musicians. We recently went there last June, after my birthday, food was great! We were surprised by a mini role play, a bride was looking for his groom and my nobyo was subjected in a shotgun wedding! They even have rings! which were later given to us as souvenirs We had a good laugh and after their kasal kasalan they serenaded us with a love song. We noticed that there were new additions in the Park since we first visited. We took a lot of pictures! Great dining experience! Though they do not offer service water. I guess we were just lucky on both of our visits, there were few customers and our orders were served 15 to 20 mins. max! Looking forward to our next visit! we have yet to try their free boat ride!

My family decided to take lunch at your place thru recomendations of my friends and also we find it interesting browsing in your website and advertisement @around 1pm Sept 2, 2012 (sunday) IT'S FAMILY DAY we arrived at isdaan in calauan laguna with full of excitement and happiness, our first time visit, we waited for one hour at the receiving area to wait for our turn to have a kubo or cottage, even do we are very much hungry and trying to focus our attention to attractive place and fine it so nicely....fortunately @around 2pm we already got cottage/kubo # 56 we order as follows:

    2 budbod tapa
1 adobo baboy binalot sa dahon
1 baka maanghang binalot sa dahon
1 lechon kawali binalot sa dahon
    1 bulalo plain
    2 mangga ensalada
    1 pitcher buko juice
    1 pitcher ice tea

It's a given knowledge that when you order binalot sa dahon it is a combination of rice, ulam of your choice, eggs, tomato...

Ok the food arrived @around 2:40 pm first is the plain bulalo speaking of bulalo masarap lang yan pag mainit ang sabaw so we asked the waiter to give us cup, umikot ikot siya area then finally nakakuha siya ng mangkok sa kabilang cottage/kubo....but were shock SAKA PA LANG HUHUGASAN O MY GOD!!!WALA NA BANG MANGKOK AT YUN KATATAPOS LANG GAMITIN ANG HUHUGASAN? MAHUGASAN KAYANG MABUTI YON SA PAGMAMADALI? We have nothing to do but to be patience, then after several minutes the budbod na tapa arrived in dahon ng saging, together with the adobong baboy, lechon kawali and baka maanghang put in PALAYOK, so we wait for the rice to come in....WAIT WAIT WAIT GUTOM NA TALAGA KAMI TINAWAG KO WAITER NASAAN ANG KANIN WALA DAW TALAGA KASAMA DAHIL YUN DAW ORDER KO, SABI KO DI BA PAG BINALOT SA DAHON MAY KASAMA NG KANIN......OK OK OK to calm down the situation galit na wife ko mga anak at apo ko gutom na order na lang kami ng seperate na kanin MAKAKAIN NA LANG IT IS ALREADY 3PM, my God gutom na gutom na talaga kami 3 pm na, CONSIDERING na ang layo pa ng biniyahe namin from NCR to Calauan....at the middle of LUNCH 0 MERYENDA NA YATA DAHIL LATE NA, TINAWAG KO YUN WAITER .....ASAN NA YUN BUKO JUICE AT ICE TEA??? FOLLOW UP DAW NIYA OK ANTAY NA NAMAN ANG PAMILYA KO.....ABA ABA MAUUBOS NA ANG PAGKAIN WALA PA DRINKS NAHIRINAM NA ANAK KO....TUMAWAG AKO NG IBANG WAITER NAKIKIUSAP ASKING FOR A PITCHER OF WATER KUNG WALA PA YUN BUKO AT ICE TEA OK SUMUNOD NAMAN AGAD SIYA ......PERO TEKA TEKA AYUN SIYA TUMATAKBO PAPUNTA NG KUSINA AT SA TINGIN NAMIN HUHUGASAN PA LANG YUN PITCHER DAHIL KINUHA SA IBANG KUBO PAGDATING TINANONG KO SIYA OO NGA DAW .....SUSMARYOSEP NAMAN ANO BA ITO? .....NAKA FLAG PA NAMAN BARRIO FIESTA BAT GANITO ANG SERVICE.?

Then i decided to talked with your manager Mr. ADRIAN LEUS and Mr. GERARD FERRER to expedite our drinks saka pa lang dumating kung di ko pa pinatawag manager.... i'm asking bakit ganun ang klase ng serbisyo ninyo, Then the two answer me PASENSIYA NA DAW KASI MADAMING TAO.....O MY GOD HINDI REASON YAN CONSIDERING IT IS BARRIO FIESTA NA MATAGAL NA SA BUSINESS AT LIPAS NA ANG PEAK HOURS..... AND THE WORST IS WE CHARGE IN FULL IN ADOBONG BABOY, BAKA MAANGHANG AND LECHON KAWALI, WE DIS-AGREE WE PAY ONLY WHAT WE ORDER WHICH ARE THE AMOUNT IN BINALOT SA DAHON AND THE OTHER MENU WE ORDER. (iniisip ko tuloy parang raket para lumaki bayaran mo)

Even do di pa kami nakapag rerelax sa lugar at naiikot, we decided na umalis na nai-SPOILED NA ANG ARAW NAMIN ANG NAAAWA LANG AKO SA BUNSO KO GUSTO NIYANG MAG-IKOT PERO UMALIS NA KAMI FEELING BAD TRIP NA...ANG TAGAL NAMIN PINAG-PLANUHAN NA PUMUNTA SA ISDAAN NASIRA LANG SA PALPAK NA SERBISYO.

We are planning to visit this place also I've seen pictures of the venue through my friend on fb. finally we met last Monday I asked her about her experience luckily two of my friends already been there. Both not satisfied by "SERVICE and CREWS" but really enjoyed the place. SO maybe we will not pursue and try other places to visit because all comments mostly don't suggest any good about the experience and I don't want to end up regretting the effort and money we spent. :)

I own a restaurant in Cebu City and have read the negative comments criticizing Isdaaan restaurant. I happen to drop by one Sunday and felt envious to see a restaurant so huge but full of customers, and I waited for almost 2 hours to get inside because it was a full house. They asked us i we were willing to wait. It's true when I got inside and its my turn to order, natataranta ang mga waiter because of the confusion because it's like a market inside full of customers. It's any restaurant owner's dream. Maybe the waiters are not qualified, or so tired, and our food came after around 40 mins.at meron pa raw dish na ipapahabol dahil hindi pa luto. In fact hindi na namin nakain yun at pinabalot na lang. I understand because this is also my business, but for me 40 mins is good enough I imagine the customers inside are almost 3,000 more or less. In my restaurant it might not come out in 2 hours time or not at all! So those criticizing this restaurant for poor service, I can say definitely that it is rude and unfair and you have no experience in restaurant service.

Imagine cooking for almost 3,000 people at the same time within a period of one hour, and this is not "turo-turo" restaurant where the food has been cooked 5 hours ago. This is an Ala Carte restaurant, meaning when you order that's the only time they will cook it so it's fresh. Yes, maybe the service was poor, again how can one restaurant give a perfect service with this volume of customers?
I also would like to say that in provinces like Cebu or like Laguna, we restaurant owners tend to "makisama" to local officials and even nearby municipalities. We take the risk of accepting even non-qualified employees to help the barangay we're situated and other nearby barangays. Until such time that they will be qualified. I'm sure that's also the reason of Isdaan.
At first I noticed their price was not as low as the other restaurants nearby. I stayed almost a month with my daughter (by the way, thank you to my son-in-law for the gracious accommodation ..hehe) Going back to their prices, I think it cannot be compared, those who are complaining about the price, don't you notice how much they invested in this place? Were you not entertained by so many acrobats, magicians, jugglers, even strongmen peeling fresh buko with his teeth? And all of this without entrance fee. Did you not try their free boat ride? Didn't your children, like my apos, receive balloons and candies for free? In spite of all this treat and entertainment, you still complain of their prices and service? Why don't you just buy lechon manok in a street corner and eat at home and try to do some magic tricks and acrobat acts to entertain them and hope you don't break your neck!

yesterday, nov 18, sunday, was a very memorable birthday for me when i was treated by my husband to eat lunch at Isdaan in Laguna. of course, we brought our 3 kids and my parents in law. at first, i was hesitant to eat there because it looks "mahal" for a middle class family like us.when we saw the menu, the price is "reasonable" naman since you have a lot of choices. and what i have experienced yesterday was totally fun and memorable. we went around Isdaan and i was amazed by the giant statues like female "sirenas" and the "giant" monkey. you can't find this anywhere else...my kids really enjoyed their stay because they where treated with lots of toys around like bicycles, pony toys, and small carts, may palabas pa ng iba't ibang talents like dancers, mga magicians, para kming nsa enchanted kingdom na maraming mapapanuod. my kids were also given balloons and candies for FREE. we had our table in the area of the waiters who are singing everybody there is singing we enjoyed their show and i was surprised when they sang to our table singing "happy birthday". nabusog talaga kmi kasi yung serving ng food hindi tinipid like we ordered mama chit special worth it talaga, and of course hindi ko talaga pinalagpas ang kanilang crispy pata na made pala ng sister company nila na barrio fiesta. kaya pla ganun kaganda ung lugar, and service is good, and superb yung food, owned pala ng barrio fiesta yun. umabot kmi ng 2 hours sa isdaan dahil inenjoy namin lahat ng gimmicks dun. congrats sa management and staff, you made my stay in isdaan truly memorable at happy pa a ng family ko. babalik ulit kami! mrs. lorelei from canlubang

i would just like to thank the "honest" management and staff of isdaan in calauan, laguna because the other day, nov. 21, wed, i went there with my officemates. we had our lunch there. the food that we ordered was superb especially the lechon tinupig, i love the smokey banana taste of it inside and out.of course after eating, we went around the place, took some pictures. we left the place smiling because we were satisified with their service and amenities. unknowingly, when we were driving back to our office, i noticed that my pouch was missing with money and my iphone 4. we rushed immediately to isdaan, we went back to our table, and i noticed that our food server was there smiling, handed over my pouch and still complete.the manager told me that it is their policy to keep a nd return all the things that's left by the customer. i even noticed their frame "our honest service" or pls contact the management if there is any dishonest employee. for me, this is the most important policy of any restaurant or any establishment. if you are being honest to your customer, it means that you will serve him the right way of serving, the food is prepared with "heart". kudos to "honest" restaurant isdaan.

I had been to Isdaan twice this year and both times my family and I weren't disappointed...true there was a bit of waiting time but that is to be expected with a restaurant that serves food freshly cooked. Those who wanted their food served instantly should have gone to Jollibee or any nearby turo2...besides the place offered so many activities that would keep the customers preoccupied while waiting. Then again, the food they served was worth the wait...so I would surely recommend my balikbayan friends and relatives to try this place out! - virgie dela rosa (pvdr66@yahoo.com)

it was my first time to eat at Isdaan in Laguna last Jan 5, 2013. As cited by some of the bloggers, the place was packed even though it was raining. we drove all the way from Cubao, Quezon City to see for ourselves what the place looks like, how does it differ from the Isdaan in Gerona, Tarlac in terms of food, restaurant amenities, service, prices and the demeanor of the wait staff. I teach HRM and Tourism students in at least 3 schools in Pampanga so these things are important to the total experience we can derive from simply eating in a restaurant anywhere in the country. i would like to say that Isdaan sa Laguna gave me a higher level of experience and satisfaction. We had what they call the "boodle fight" just like what PMA cadets in Baguio eat. The crispy tilapia with plenty of "siling labuyo" was a new approach to cooking, simply SUPERB!! i ate not just one fish but three in all. we ate on banana leaves, no plates, no utensils. it was lots of fun. we also had pinakbet, lechon kawali that tasted like the real lechon... i suppose the customers only had to ask the staff what dishes could be served the quickest, if your stomach is already grumbling because as mentioned by one restaurant owner in Cebu, every dish is cooked as ordered so you are assured of fresh food every time. i don't know about the waiting time because we took advantage of our short stay there taking pictures and making sure we experience "Kingkong" and when we went back to our reserved table, the food has already been served. while roaming the place, every wait staff we encountered greeted us with "mabuhay po!!" so that's a reflection of the nationalistic inclination of the owners!! KUDOS to the owners!! i am taking my entire tourism class to Isdaan on February 8, 2013. will post my comments again after that experience. anonymous, there's no entrance fee at Isdaan Laguna. expect a budget of PhP200.00 and up per person (sample menu prices)

i didnt expect na rude ang managers na naencounter namin when we found out na pinagtutulungan ung isang waiter dhil tumanggap ng tip. ung manager na isa minura at pinahiya nya inside the kitchn ung waiter. we tried to look for him when i saw how kitchen staff throw gills and leftovers to him surprisingy th manager was just watching. Nung ng freak out n kmi dhil hindi nmin matanggap na napasama pa pla ung pagbigay namin ng tip pinalalayas kmi ng managers kung ayw dw namin kumain wag n dw kmi bumalik dun. magnanakw dw kc ung waiter kya gnun ang ginagwa? lame answer! panu nla nasabi na magnanakaw e binigay nmin personally ung tip for him? grabe.they are sending us out because there was a commotion? hindi tama pla sla mgtrato ng staff. grabe

We went there today and didn't expect will be treated like that. The crew asked us "table for how many po" I answered, "Saglit lang po teh.. yung mga kasama namin nagpi-picture-picture pa" Goofy arrived, so we started taking pictures again. When the "OJT Girl" whispered, "para-paraan" Unfortunately my sister heard what she said. My sister answered in a very calm way, asking her to repeat what she said. The "OJT Girl" was shocked. What does she mean? We just went there just to take pictures? Of course we will eat there, it's a restaurant. I forgot her name, nakakabulol kasi.. sounds like "JER-JER" She needs to learn what is the importance of Customer Service Skills.
