Froelich Tours Double Decker Buses on EDSA: Fares, Trip Schedules and Issues/Concerns

Tutubi drives everyday from home to work as a matter of convenience as the present public transportation is chaotic, inconvenient and unsafe.

the DOTC and the LTFRB started the holiday point-to-point express bus service with the aim of convincing car owners to leave car at home to avail of the premium bus service of just park their cars at SM North EDSA, SM Megamall or Glorietta

UPDATE Effective February 15, 2016, trip schedules posted here via Froelich Tours FB page

these premium double decker buses have a seating capacity of 70 passengers. The VIP lounge has a toilet (comfort room or CR), Refrigerator, TV at tables. There are GPS, free Internet wifi and CCTV for security (hold-ups and pickpockets can be avoided

Trinoma to Glorietta 5 Trip Schedules :
first trip: 5:30am and every fifteen minutes thereafter

UPDATE Effective February 15, 2016, trip schedules posted here via Froelich Tours FB page

    Double Decker Bus Fare:

    Route SM Megamall – Glorietta 5: PhP40.00
SM North Edsa – Glorietta (vice versa): PhP55.00

    Tutubi's issues and concerns

It would be better if they also solve last mile problem from Glorietta to Ayala Avenue (probably near Paseo de Roxas) as this can walked of transfer to derepit buses plying the Ayala/Leveriza route?

How about premium buses from BGC, MRT, Ayala (or Buendia) to LRT and even up to SM Mall of Asia?
this solves the inconvenience of commuting from BGC to Makati CBD which usually takes a taxi ride?
Government don't know this because they don't take public transportation

If they can fix the MRT to be efficient, connect it to LRT 1 at SM North/Trinoma then have another convenient link to Ortigas CBD (sort of loop service) and to BGC, I will really leave my car at home but for now-- it's a BIG NO!

to really professionalize and make efficient public transportation, buses drivers and conductors must be paid fixed and decent wages, same with jeepney drivers and remove the medieval boundary system. This way, drivers can load/unload only at designated stops, won't engage in racing, won't linger at corners and be more disciplined too

Araneta Center Bus Station, Cubao, Quezon City

Tutubi's helper went home to Iloilo for a one week, paid vacation and also RORO bus fare (it's her choice, Tutubi's willing to shoulder the round-trip airfare but her sister inisted they take the long, sea-going bus ride unlike her other helper who takes the round-trip flight to/from Cebu via Cebu Pacific. One of the ways to keep the loyalty of maids/helpers/yaya/kasambahay as dedicated ones are really hard to find)

The information you will see on this post is about the Araneta Center Bus Station where several bus lines going to the provinces
mostly going south to Visayas and Mindanao can be found for lack of dedicated bus terminal accessible to the commuting public. This bus terminal will, hope it's soon, be replaced by the Southwest Bus Terminal serving Cavite and Batangas (including Tagaytay), North Bus Terminal (no final location but it's either the site of Manila Seedling Bank, UP Diliman near Commonwealth or temporarily at Trinoma (stupid, Tutubi thinks) and by the South Bus Terminal (probably at FTI Complex in Taguig) to serve all southbound buses not served by the Southwest Terminal

Note: this post will be updated to reflect bus company contact numbers, bus routes/destinations and fares, once available.
This bus terminal is full of people in peak times like Holy Week (particularly Holy Wednesday and Hoy Thursday), Christmas, New Year and All Saints Day

How to Get to Araneta Center Bus Station:

It's accessible via MRT Cubao -Araneta Center Station or LRT 2 Cubao Station. EDSA buses pass by the EDSA Aurora Boulevard where you need to walk to the place behind Shopwise. All jeepneys with signboard Cubao can also take you to the place.

Tutubi, in his never-ending quest to avoid EDSA traffic in the morning snakes through the inner roads of Quezon City, Manila, San Juan, Mandaluyong en route to the Republic of Makati (the "first world" fiefdom of Binay dynasty, the traffic capital of the Philippines that suffers from floods too despite billions in revenues and cash reserves).

One of those discoveries he's made was got lost in the Balete Drive (the infamous white lady street), Horsehoe drive, Benitez, to get to EDSA Santolan, and stumbled on the "makeshift" bus terminal of Dimple Star Transport servicing the Manila-Iloilo route via Mindoro Island (provinces of Oriental Mindoro and Occidental Mindoro) and Antique

MMDA Southwest Integrated Bus Terminal (Uniwide Coastal Mall) to Cavite/Batangas

The move of the MMDA to build integrated bus terminals to limit provincial buses outside the city is really needed, but (Tutubi said but), it's implementation is wanting where the impact to commuters was not properly thought of and commuters, who were the ones affected, were not consulted.

The most glaring omission by the MMDA was the absence of the transfer buses/jeepneys to Lawton and Taft Avenue where most of those affected are heading. There are buses to EDSA passing by Uniwide Coastal Mall, particularly those going to NAIA terminals 1 and 2 (signboard MIA) but very few to accommodate the deluge of commuters from Cavite and Batangas

Expect the same chaos when the South Integrated Bus Terminal opens in Alabang, Muntinlupa (by DOTC) and the North Integrated Bus Terminal in Quezon City (reportedly temporarily at Trinoma Mall to cause major traffic there. (DPWH, it should be somewhere near Balintawak Market and LRT Station)

Herewith is the list of destinations and bus companies operating at the Uniwide Coastal Mall (Southwest Integrated Bus Terminal).

Makati Green Frog Hybrid Bus Route Map via Gil Puyat, Schedules and Fare

In the proud city of Makati controlled for decades by the Binay Dynasty, traffic is getting worse with no major investment to alleviate it nor improve public transportation (except for the e-jeepney), a private company comes in to picture to try to bring the level of public transportation to first world standards.

Green Frog company is bringing in hybrid buses from China to ply the route connecting the LRT on Taft Avenue to the MRT on EDSA via Sen. Gil Puyat Avenue (Buendia).

In order to ride, you need prepaid cards (much like Octopus of Hong Kong and EZlink of Singapore, a system soon to be available in the Philippines, government is just taking too long to implement it but Tutubi is privy that it's happening soon) that you can use for ten (10) rides (from your conductor) at a cost of PhP150 + PhP30 (card deposit). The next card you purchase will only cost PhP150 plus the old card.

Senator Gil Puyat Bus Stops and landmarks

    1. LRT (Sen. Gil Puyat Station, Taft Avenue/LBC (Start/End of Line)
    2. Tramo (by E Games by the river).
    3. Bautista (Big red building)
    4. Filmore (by UniOil gas station)
    5. PNR (near Cityland, Mayapis)
    6. Roces (formerly Pasong Tamo)/CEU by Burgundy Building
    7. Makati Med/Ayala (Tropical Hut)
    8. FEU (One Central and The Columns)
    9. Mapua (coner of Reposo (Nicanor Garcia))
    10. Makati Avenue (before Pacific Star Building)
    11. Paseo de Roxas (cor of Paseo de Roxas and Buendia)
    12. Edsa/MRT (by the overpass, in front of Urdaneta Gate)

    Via Kalayaan Avenue

    13. Palawan St. (by 32nd St entrance of The Fort)
    14. Yabut Circle (after pedestrian lane, Andoks)
    15. Commercio (after intersection, after pedestrian lane)
    16. Lawton/Gate One.
    17 11th Avenue (PhilPlans building)
    18. Pili (on the bus shelter after overpass)
    19. C5 (at the corner of Kalayaan C5)
    20. C5 Buting (below pedestrian walkway by the loading and unloading station of buses and jeeps. (Start and end of the line)

    Notes:

The bus stop to MRT Buendia Station is quite far from the Urdaneta gate. This is a turn off for people averse to walking (especially when it's raining or very hot as the walkway is not covered) and would probably still take the jeepneys in front of DBP Building to get to MRT. Those people may not be the target of Green Frog though

There's an on-going negotiation to extend the route to SM Mall of Asia

Tutubi hopes LTFRB and Makati City government put a plan on phasing out the old, polluting and traffic-causing jeepneys plying the routes Washington - MRT/Bel-air and and reduce the Guadalupe - LRT/Cartimar via Buendia EDSA routes while considering the impact to livelihood of affected jeepney drivers (did you know: most jeepney operators don't pay taxes, it's the jeepney drivers sweating it out to make money through the medieval boundary system)

Now, a similar jeepney route should be in place that pass by Ayala Avenue from LRT to MRT to connect with The Fort Bus to get to Bonifacio Global City and reduce the number of buses passing by Ayala Avenue going to SM Mall of Asia, Baclaran and MIA (NAIA Terminal 1 and 2).

Unlike all other city and provincial buses, hybrid buses have CCTV cameras, thieves and robbers can be identified so beware.

Makati City and LTO/LTFRB should also rid Makati CBD of colorums depriving jeepney drivers of income from passengers but provides regular income to traffic enforcers who receive payola for letting them operate.

How much is the bus fare? Flat fare of PhP20 for single bus ride one way or P15 if you purchase the prepaid card (PhP150 load, good for 10 rides + PhP30 card deposit)

Trip Schedule: 5am to 9pm Monday to Friday; Saturday: 5am - 9am and 4pm - 8pm, no trips on Sunday with trip frequency 30-40 minutes apart
